The Savants came together after The Company began to hold the populace in terror. Seeing the way that mankind was held byThe Company's chains, they began to fight back. They’re a desperate bunch of mavericks, and have figured out how to use Steam and other ways to power their strange weaponry.
Each Savant is different from his co-conspirators, unlike the lockstep Company. The Savants are concerned with only breaking the Company’s hold, if they manage to achieve the impossible, they’ll probably fade into history.
Desperation & Freedom:
Desperation is the true mother of invention. Mankind needs a savior, someone who will take whatever steps are necessary. The Savants fill this role. Desperate for any kind of solution, they’ve pieced together strange steam powered weaponry and mobility. After all, steam just requires water and something to burn… trash from the world Before litters the ground.
The Savants fight to break the remnants of humanity from The Company. They are the ultimate revolutionaries, trying with all their might to free everyone. Freedom is at the core of the Savant philosophy. The Savants are by no means a unified force. Not all of them agree that attacking Stronghold Citadel is the way to proceed. This personal freedom even tracks all the way down to how they look and what they wield, every Savant has their own style and method. It’s nearly impossible to tell a civilian from a Savant until that Savant pulls a mechanized steam rifle from underneath his duster and sprays down a Company detachment.
Most Savants prefer to be loners, but realize that by working together they stand a better chance of standing up to the Company and some have banded together to do just that. None of them ever set out to be heroes, but among the oppessed, they have recieved such a status for daring to oppose the Company. The word "Savant" is one that has come to mean a whispered hope among the common folk.
In the end, the Savants are nothing more than a group of ragtag freedom fighters who are reluctant but willing to do what it takes to break the Company's grip of power, control and oppression. Perhaps it is true that heroes are never born but are made into who they are as victums of circumstance. Are you a savant?
